A Beach Bar in Hua Hin, Between the Lagoon and the Sea

Ocean Bar is the part of the resort people describe when they get home. It sits on the strip of deck between the lagoon and the beach, which means you get the water on both sides, the breeze off the gulf all afternoon, and an unobstructed view west over the lagoon as the light goes. As a beach bar in Hua Hin it is unusually quiet — there is no DJ, no dance floor and no attempt to be a nightclub.

What to Drink

The cocktail list is built around Thai fruit and herbs rather than imported syrups: lemongrass, kaffir lime, tamarind, mango, pandan. The signature serves change with what is in season. There is a proper mocktail list rather than three sweet leftovers, cold Thai and imported beer on tap and by the bottle, and a short wine selection chosen to drink well in heat.

Coffee, fresh coconut and pressed juice run all day, so the bar works as a mid-morning stop as much as an evening one.

What to Eat

The food menu is deliberately short and designed to eat with one hand: satay, spring rolls, chicken wings, a club sandwich, nachos, a good burger and a daily ceviche when the catch allows. Portions are sized for sharing over a long afternoon rather than for a formal dinner — for that, Baan Dum is a two-minute walk down the sand.

Best Time to Come

Late afternoon. The sun drops behind the lagoon between 18:00 and 18:45 depending on the month, and the deck fills for about an hour either side of it. Earlier in the day the bar is close to empty and the loungers are the best seats on the property.

Ocean Bar is open to non-residents as well as house guests, and no reservation is needed except for large groups. For what else is on around Hua Hin, the Tourism Authority of Thailand publishes the provincial calendar.

Ocean Bar in the Rhythm of the Day

Most guests find the same pattern: coffee here mid-morning, back for a cold drink after the beach, then dinner at Baan Dum a short walk down the sand. If you are here in the afternoon, Chocolate Hour runs in the lobby and is worth the detour.

What makes it the beach bar in Hua Hin worth staying at rather than passing through is the lack of programming — nothing is scheduled, nobody moves you on, and the loungers are free to use whether you order or not. The full list of restaurants in Hua Hin at the resort is on the dining page.
